Vision

The vision of NHRDF is “Enriching Indian Horticulture by developing and disseminating advance technologies for making India as a global leader in Horticulture sector”. This will be focused especially on the promotion of vegetable crops like Onion, Garlic etc. This will be achieved by enhancing the production, productivity and minimizing post-harvest losses of onion, garlic and other export-oriented horticultural crops, which will facilitate to meet the domestic needs and make India the global leader in export.

Seeds

Starting from 3 kg of onion seed in 1979, the NHRDF produces over 300 tonnes of onion seed and distribute annually to serve the farmers more closely. NHRDF produces more than 1,000 tonnes of garlic seed and 1500 tonnes of potato seed annually. Besides, NHRDF produces and distribute seeds of okra, baby corn, cauliflower, carrot, coriander, French bean, methi, peas, cowpea muskmelon, palak, radish, chilli, tomato, drumstick etc in different parts of the country. The replacement of onion and garlic varieties is achieved to a considerable extent through distribution of quality seed. Seeds are distributed through various centres of NHRDF in different parts of the country.
